HotelRefund (hotelrefund.net) is a free hotel price tracker run by an independent developer. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have. It applies to the website, the email alerts, and the public MCP server.
When you track a hotel, we store only what the tracking itself needs: the hotel you selected, your check-in and check-out dates, and the currency and language used for the price lookup. Tracking requires no account and no email address. To prevent abuse we also store a one-way hash of your IP address; the raw IP is never written to our database.
Separately, if you subscribe to our newsletter or attach an email address to a tracker, we store that address (see section 9).
We do not collect, store, or access any payment information such as credit card numbers, bank account details, or billing addresses. We never see your bookings — the service does not connect to your email account or to any booking platform account.
Tracking entries are used to look up and record prices for the stay you selected. Tracked hotels and their price histories are public: anyone visiting hotelrefund.net can see the hotel, the dates and the recorded prices. They are not linked to your identity — no name, email or account is attached to a tracking entry.
Data is stored in Cloudflare D1 (our database). Tracking entries become inactive after their check-in date passes and may be removed periodically. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. IP hashes used for rate limiting are short-lived. We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to any third parties.
We use the following third-party services: Cloudflare (website hosting, database and DNS), Google Analytics (traffic measurement), Google AdSense (advertising, see section 7), Agoda (hotel and price data), and Resend (newsletter delivery). Each of these services has its own privacy policy.
Our website uses Google Analytics to understand visitor traffic. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymous usage data. No personally identifiable information is collected through cookies. Advertising cookies are covered separately in the next section.
We display advertising to keep the tracker free. In connection with this:
If you are in the EEA, the UK or South Korea, we ask for your consent through a consent management platform before setting non-essential advertising cookies, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time. Ads are never placed in a way that could be confused with our price data or booking links.
Booking links on our pages contain affiliate tracking codes. We participate in the affiliate programme operated by Agoda. If you book after clicking one of our links, the booking platform may pay us a commission. The price you pay is the same either way, and a commission never influences which prices we record or how a tracking is displayed — every recorded price is the rate we actually observed. Clicking a booking link passes you and standard technical information (such as your browser and the referring page) to the booking platform, where its own privacy policy applies.
If you optionally leave an email address when starting a price tracker, we store it with that tracker and use it only to send you price-change alerts for that specific hotel; every alert contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes the address immediately. If you optionally tell us a city you care about when subscribing to the digest, we store it only to include that city's deals in your digest.
We send marketing communications (a monthly digest of tracked price drops and new guides) only to people who have explicitly opted in by submitting their email address through the subscription form on hotelrefund.net. We do not add anyone to our mailing list automatically just because they used our price-monitoring service.
When you subscribe, we store your email address along with the language you selected and the approximate country of the request (derived from your IP at the moment of submission, not stored as a raw IP). We use this only to send you these updates and to understand which regions our subscribers come from. The frequency of marketing emails is approximately once per month.
You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email we send, or by emailing booking@hotelrefund.net with "UNSUBSCRIBE" in the subject line. We will remove your address within 7 business days.
We operate a public MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at https://hotelrefund.net/mcp so AI assistants such as Claude can search hotels and create or read trackings on your behalf. It requires no authentication and no account.
Requests made through the MCP server are handled exactly like requests made on the website: we store the hotel, dates, currency and language, plus a one-way hash used for rate limiting. We do not receive your conversation with the AI assistant, your assistant account, or any identifier belonging to it — only the request itself. Trackings created this way are public in the same way as those created on the site. Responses may include an affiliate booking link, as described in section 8.
You can request deletion of all your data at any time by emailing booking@hotelrefund.net with the subject "Delete my data." We will process your request within 7 business days.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, export or restrict the processing of your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — including under the GDPR (EEA/UK), the CCPA/CPRA (California) and PIPA (South Korea). We do not sell personal information as those laws define it. Send any such request to the same address; we do not charge a fee and will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.
The service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
